I visited the American Cemetery today and I can say a few words to simply sum it up ; Epic. Overwhelming. Amazing.
I had no idea what to expect as I have no ties to the WW2 but I only made it a few hundred meters into the cemetery before I found myself surrounded by a sea of 17,000 white marble crosses. It simply took my breath away and I am not ashamed to say the tears welled up as I was just stunned by the enormity of the sheer number of crosses.
An absolute MUST SEE for anyone visiting Manila. The gardens and lay out are beautiful and I have never seen more precise or well maintained lawns and edges in my entire life. Looking after the place would be my dream job come true. Everything about the place screams Iconic Landmark and it commands an amazing space above metro Manila with the surrounding highrises giving it a surreal feeling. A big thanks to GavinMac for putting me onto it as I really would have never gone if he had not INSISTED !
Every once in a while I know what I’m talking about.
