Oh dear. Another one of those weekends.
Friday afternoon I met Mark,Phil and Sindre at Liquid Bar for a beer “on the way home”. Put the four of us together and the game of poker starts faster than the beers come out from behind the bar. Luckily for Phil, he was off to Bangkok so he escaped the “$3” game that turned into 7 hours of Poker at Liquid Bar. Srey Touche got in on the action and took to the game like a duck to water. Piles of 100or notes went up and down and the end result saw Srey Touche and I up around $50 and $70 respectively. So much for “lets just play with $3………..”. I also ended up injured again after a bunch of travellers doing a treasure hunt came in and needed a photo of a local doing something crazy. Cue; Me doing a handstand aginst the wall. Result; one torn and painful shoulder ;-( .
It was then on to the Winking Frog and then the call went up – NAGA ! Once again we found ourselves stumbling into the Casino however this time the RHS “sky room” was shut so we found ourselves in LHS “Mini Vegas” room. Unfortunately the Naga gods were not looking upon us with favour and we all walked out wearing no pants.
The next day, Saturday, I took a bunch of women to the beauty market mid afternoon ( Leakhana, Mum, Grace,Srey Nek and Srey Pek ) for some fun. Whilst I lay on a bench with Leakhana and Mum and had a facial, Srey Nek had her wild and whooly hair straightened for the first time ever . Apparently she has endured alot of freindly teasing from the family over the years about her hair and to see the transformation and the smile on her face as she turned into a little swan was fantastic. Forgot to take bloody photos ! Grace was passed from stall to stall so everyone could have a play with her and at times would come over to sit on my chest and bounce up and down which was very relaxing….not !
Then, with Sindre’s last night in town approaching fast, it was off to Chez Mark for…you got it….some more poker. However this was to be a night like no other and possibly the end of the famously male dominated Fabulous Four nights that Mark,Sindre, Phil and I have enjoyed ? Why ? Well someone had the bright bloody idea to turn the night into a poker “training session” for the wives. The result ? I will let the photos tell the story;
So the moral to this story is – don’t ever teach your demure little Khmer wife to play poker. Your stack will dissapear faster than a fart in a dust storm and behind those giggles and smiles are lean,mean card paying machines. Having said that, we were all very proud of our girls and would be lying if we said we can’t wait to introduce them to a tournament ;-).
